Maureen Discusses The Collective UG And Living Purposefully
Maureen Akwe is a 3rd year student pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Ethics and Human Rights. She is also a big fan of The Collective UG. We had an interview with her and this is what she had to say:
How did you learn about the Collective?
I got to know about The Collective in 2015, I heard about the band from a friend who said they have quality music.
He was going to attend one of their gatherings at All Saints Cathedral that evening.
When did you listen to their music for the first time?
I was looking for some music on a friend’s laptop one Saturday afternoon when I saw The Collective music in one of the folders.
I didn’t know any of their songs, but I transferred them all to my phone immediately.
What has their music meant to you?
Their music has made me ponder about God’s character – what He does and who He is. It has made me think about life – that it’s a journey and there’s a lot to learn.
Take a look at “In and Out” it reminds me of Matthew 5:13:”You are the salt of the earth…” We make a difference in people’s lives “in and out of season” because we got Christ Jesus.”
The Collective UG music is the ‘real deal’ for young and youthful Christians.
It’s dance-able and I always sing along to their songs. Their content is Biblically sound.
I hope the Collective put the lyrics to their music online soon.
I wanted the lyrics for “Sojourner” a while back. I Googled the lyrics in vain. There was nothing to display.
The theme of this year’s Sold Out Conference is living purposefully. Why do you feel it is an important topic to address?
It’s an important topic to address for a number of reasons. Young people are strong, creative, passionate, and are willing to try new things.
I’m certain those who don’t know their purpose here on earth will be inspired to discover it.
The conference will also be a moment of inspiration for those who already know their purpose.
What is our ultimate purpose as Christians?
Our ultimate purpose is to build the kingdom of God.
State one challenge you’ve faced in discovering your purpose.
One challenge I’ve faced is “staying on the course.” I’ve chosen to stand out and not be ashamed to be “born again”. I’m always tried and tested in this area.
It’s like everyone is watching to find a fault or wait for the day I’ll fall and give up. It’s really hard sometimes to keep focused because of so many adversaries.
There’s a time at Campus when I bought a few items from a shop. The shopkeeper gave me extra money as my change.
I had walked a long distance away from the shop, when I realized she had given me more extra change. I hesitated to take it back since it wasn’t my mistake.
I headed back to the shop; debating whether to return the extra change or not. I reached the shop and returned the extra change. I really felt good after that.
